Fun Fact:

Alligator

Did you know?

There are two different species of alligators. The American alligator and the Chinese alligator.

The American alligator is much larger than the Chinese alligator. The american alligator grows to be about 13 feet in length and can weigh up to 790 pounds. The Chinese alligator grows to be 7 feet long. There are only 12 known Albino Alligators in the world, making them the rarest of "living fossils" to inhabit our planet. Gatorland; located in Florida, is known to have the largest group of Giant White Alligators in the world. These Giant White Gators are not albino, they have piercing blue eyes and a bit of pigment around their mouth, these gators are called lucistic gators. How cool is that!?

What We Do

Making A Difference

Tha Zoo is dedicated to rescuing reptiles, amphibians, and many other animals. While we strongly encourage people to do extensive research before investing in these types of animals; sometimes life gets the best of us, and we make a spur of the moment decision. Some owners may not be able to care for their pet any longer due to unexpected expenses, not realizing how big the animal may get, or have lost interest in the animal. This is where we come in, and are more than happy to take in the animal to be cared for in the proper way. Here at Tha Zoo Reptile Sanctuary we strive to make sure these special creatures live their best and longest life possible. We look forward to educating anyone interested in these animals so they are not stuck in a bind of either needing to give up their pet or making the right decision on rather or not a certain animal is the right fit for them.

Rescues

Our biggest goal here at Tha Zoo; is to rescue any reptile, amphibian, or other animals that are either neglected, unwanted, or otherwise unable to be cared for by the owner. We take great pride to be able to provide the care and love the animal may need. We feel it is very important for these enchanting animals to have a safe place to live, grow and be cared for properly.

Up close and personal reptile experience

With our goal to make the world a better place for these wonderful creatures, we offer face to face encounters with reptiles.
For reptile lovers that don't have the means to own their own reptile; educational purposes, or to help someone that is fearful or may not be so fond of these beautiful animals, understand they are just as loving and accepting as the standard family pet. We want people to understand how misunderstood these great animals are and that they are just as cuddly and curious as say, a puppy dog. We look forward to working with our community in hopes to inspire others to handle these animals with love and care in any situation.

Fun Fact:

Chameleon

Why do chameleons change their colors?
Some people think that Chameleons change color to hide themselves from predators or any threat, like camouflage. However this is not the most prominent reason, and definitely not the only reason

In fact chameleons change color to show what mood they are in. If they’re feeling calm, they‘ll be a more pale color, if they’re feeling defensive they will be a darker color, and the beautiful bright colors are used to attract mates. Color changes can also be associated with temperature and light. They’ll change to a darker color to retain heat and warmth, and to a lighter color to repel heat, and stay cool. How Cool is that!? Don't you wish you could change color like a Chameleon?
